TECHNOLOGY BUSINESS OWNER, CHRISTINA LANDERS, RECEIVES NATIONAL OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD

COMPUTER EXPLORERS (CE), an international company dedicated to children’s technology education, recently named Christina Landers of Fishkill, NY “Christina is our first Business Owner of the Month for 2009. She will be implementing our TOT podcasting curriculum in celebration of our 25th Anniversary to promote enrolment and build traffic to her Web site.” said Deb Evans, President and CEO of COMPUTER EXPLORERS.
Landers has been delivering instruction via uniquely trained technology teachers in preschools, elementary schools and community sites in Dutchess, Putnam, and Orange counties.  As part of her marketing support of the CE TechTots courses, Landers distributed science kits and received a welcome surprise.  “The director and teachers at Hilltop Children’s Center decided to keep the science kits in the classroom and to do the experiments in the books with the children there in school, said Cyndee Perkins, CE Curriculum and Program Development Director.  “This is a United Way childcare center serving working families, many who are just getting by, so they strive to keep costs down. The staff was so impressed with the science kits they created a science center with them!”
Prior to CE, Landers worked at IBM Microelectronics for 11 years.  She has a BS in Imaging Science from Rochester Institute of Technology.  While working at IBM she obtained her MS in Microelectronic Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  She was a volunteer mentor for middle school students to encourage them to consider careers in math and science.  She served on the board of her church’s preschool for 4 years, including a 3-year term as Chair of the Board.  She is a volunteer with the Rhinebeck Science Foundation.  It is her belief that by working with young people she can truly make a difference in their lives.  Her goal is to use her love of technology, science, math and engineering to spark an interest in young people and introduce technology as fun and exciting.
“Christina has always been actively involved in curriculum input, but has a particular interest in our TechStars afterschool programs. Along with other franchisees she provided valuable information to improve our “Go Green” curriculum and I cannot imagine a more outstanding representative of COMPUTER EXPLORERS within our system!” concludes Evans.
